Glossary of Team Activities
Time Trials
- All swimmers are evaluated in each legal stroke.
- Coaches use these times to determine which meets swimmers will compete in.
Officiating Certification: Stroke and Turn Clinic
- A class to train parents as stroke and turn judges.
- No experience needed—it's a great way to learn the sport!
- You'll be able to watch the Olympics and say, “Hey, Katie Ledecky did that turn illegally—I’d have disqualified her!"
Team Picture Day
- Team and individual photos are taken.
- All swimmers should wear their team T-shirt and suit.
Lil Rays
- Our youngest swimmers (ages 3-7) who are developing into future Stingrays.
Monday Meets
- All swimmers are welcome to compete; coaches determine the strokes.
- As swimmers progress, they’ll become competent in each stroke.
- The goal: Most swimmers will complete an Individual Medley by season’s end.
- Note: Monday meets are not scored to determine a winner.
Team Treat
- After Wednesday practices, swimmers get a treat—like glazed donuts or ice cream sundaes!
Teen Progressive Dinner
- For rising 7th-12th graders.
- Start at the pool, then walk to homes for appetizers, an entrée, and back to the pool for dessert and late-night swimming.
Divisional Relays
- The top relay teams in each age group from our six-team division compete in freestyle and medley relays.
All Star Relays
- The top 18 relay teams in each age group from all 102 pools in NVSL compete in freestyle and medley relays.
Lollipop Meet
- The Lil Rays program culminates in a “Lollipop Meet”.
- A fun event where Lil Rays compete in 25-yard races.
- Older swimmers take on the roles of starter, timers, clerk of course, awards, announcer and many more etc.
IM Carnival
- A meet focused solely on Individual Medleys.
- Like Monday meets, it’s not scored, but it’s a fun end-of-season event.
End-of-Season Banquet
- A casual, catered event at the pool.
- Includes swimming, awards presentations, and an end-of-season slideshow.
